A Comparison Study on Residential Mobility among apartment Residents between two Cities |
Abstract |
Present study is to review and compare the types, motives, and phenomena of residential mobility as stated by the family life cycle and standard of living between the dwellers of apartment projects in Kwang Ju City, the largest city and center of administration and education in the Chonnam area and those in Sun Chun City, a medium-sized city neighboring industrial complex in the area. The study findings are summarized as follows:1)In the phenomena of residential mobility among apartment dwellers between these two areas, it has demonstrated that the mobility cycle is shorter(0.6yrs.) and the frequency of moving, higher(1.49times) for the households in Kwang Ju City compared to those in Sun Chun City. The higher the stage of family life cycle and standard of living, the longer the mobility cycle and the lower the frequency of moving without the geographical concern;2)Although the motives of residential mobility among residents in apartment projects are highly influenced by the factors of physical environment and access to transportation regardless the area, it has revealed that physical environment, i.e., neighborhood, and social environment for education for households in Kwang Ju City and investment value and access to transportation for those in Sun Chun City are the primary concerns in the motives of housing selection.3)In the types of residential mobility among apartment dwellers, the contrast between households in these two areas has been noted with the findings that in Sun Chun City, the type of ownership is mainly established by a horizontal mobility, and the scale and floor level of the apartment building, by a upward mobility, while in Kwang Ju City, all three elements, the type of ownership, scale, and floor level of the apartment building are primarily formed by a horizontal mobility.4)In view of directional propensity to inner-City residential mobility, a noticeable difference among apartment dwellers exists. As a future-desired residential area for those in Kwang Ju City, the City boundary, outskirt of the city, area between the central city and the city boundary, and central city is chosen in a sequence as the city boundary for the most preferable, while for those in Sun Chun City, the central city, city boundary, area between the central city and the city boundary, and outskirt of the city is chosen is a descending order of preference. |
