The implements of carrying building materials for the Suwon castle in the 18th century |
| Abstract |
During the construction of the Suwon castle, 1794-1796, new implements for carrying stones and timbers, which was deviced by confucian scholar of the realistic group were used. It was said that Jung Yakyong(1762-1836) referred to chinese books on western machinery, when he was ordered to device new carrying implements by the King,Jong-jo. In this thesis, it could be cleared that the device of Kojoonggi owed to the original design of Jung Yakyong, though he borrowed the principle of pulley from the western book of machinery, Yuan-hsi chi-chi tu-shuo li-tsui.The new implements did not play main role in constructing the Suwon castle, because of lack of experience. But the basic principle of Kojoonggi succeeded to the next century. It could be found in the use on Nok-no in the 19th century palace constructions. |
