An Experimental Study on the Deformation and Strength of Square and Tubular Steel Column under High Axial Force. |
Abstract |
Square and circular steel tubes used to column member, have an advantage to structure design without difference between strong axis and weak axis, compared to opensection members(H-section) in section proprities. Especially these members have better effective properities in deformation than H-section, not having direction in strong axis and weak axis because of isotropic buckling. This paper represents the investigation to study the deformation and strength of square and circular steel column throughout a series of experiment with the key variables, such as selenderness, diameter-to-thickness(D/t) ratio and eccentric ratio. Through the experiments, the results show that the ratio of stress increment isdecreased in accordance with increment of D/t ratioand the limit value of D/t ratio over yield stress is presented to D/t<=36.7. The limit value of D/t ratio over plastic deformation(3-4)is presented to D/t<35 respectively, also an emprical formula to predict the ultimate capacity of steel column is proposed. |
