Analytical Approach to the Behavior of End-Plate Connection |
Abstract |
Finite element methodology is employed in investigation of the behavior of end-plate connections. The refined three-dimensional finite element model is developed to account for the various characteristics of connection and analyzed with a general purpose structural analysiscomputer program ADINA. The connection models are designed based on the practical ranges of each primary dimensions, and divided into two cases, i.e., stiffenedand unstiffened connections. The general equation for the moment-rotation relationships of end-plate connectionis deduced through regression. For the convenient application to structural analysis and design, the bilinear model is chosen to represent the moment-rotation curves. Finally, applying the moment-rotation equation, basic structural analysis is carried out and the design formula for the thickness of end-plate is proposed. |
