Title |
A study on the environmental performance using the reflective glass as building envelope material |
Abstract |
The purpose of this study is to review how thermal and visual environments are affected by using the reflective glass as building envelope material.Especially, this research has emphasis on the relation between the reflectance of the glass and cooling, heating, and lighting loads of the building.Through computer simulation and analysis, valuable results are as follows;First, the higher reflectance of the glass is, the lower the cooling loads is.Second, the heating loads of the building tends to increase only a little when the reflectance of the glass increases.Third, the higher the reflectance of the glass is, the lower the illumination level of the room and the saving rate of lighting energy are.Fourth, if cooling, heating and lighting energy loads are considered at the same time, the differences of total building loads caused by using different reflectance of the glass is extremely small.Fifth, the reflectance of the glass should be considered with size and orientation of the window. In other words, the larger the window is, the better the reflectance of the glass is high. For the use of North and South facing windows, the glass with low reflectance isdesirable;on the contrary, the glass with high reflectance for East and West facing windows. |
