Abstract Cable net structures have some special characteristics which reveal instable phenomenon in initial state, but become stable structure after introducing initial stresses, because of its own very flexibility. Trerefore the shape and the stress-deformation analysis are needed to graps the large deformation behavior of cable net structures due to the initial stresses and the external excitations, respectively. In this study, we made new computational code named as McS-1 in which used the generalized finite element formulation suggested for the geometrically nonlinear analysis of cable nets. Also the coupled numerical scheme of Newton-Raphson's iteration method with improved force increment method was used for improvement of convergence.As a result of this study, the McS-1 shows satisfactory results for the rang and the speed of convergence in the nonlinear analysis of cable net structures.
