Older People`s Color Perception and Designing of Architectural Color for the Elderly |
Abstract |
This study explores the color perception of Korean elderly for the color designing of the built environments inhabited mainly by the elderly. The focus of this study is to explore relationship between color perception and the deterioration of the sense organ by aging. The research approach applied is a statistical analysis based on a face-to-face interviewof 216 older people by using a designed color sample and a questionnaire. The analysis centers on the following 5 issues: 1) older people's color perception and the image of color, 2) color preference and the colors actually used for psychological comfort. 3) the preference of color combination, 4) the relationship between color preference and the preference of architectural color, 5) the degree of the distinctness of color combination and eye deterioration of the older people.The results are discussed to establish basic considerations for the designning of color for the built environments for the Korean elderly. |
