A Study on the Decision Methodology for the Introduction of New Technology in Building Areas |
Abstract |
With recent trends of internationalization and globalization, Korean construction industry needs to secure the international competitiveness, focusing on the cost reduction and the quality improvement with the employment of new technologies. In this situation, the role of building designer is increasingly one of decision-maker who has to make a choice of new technologies available from competing manufactures and suppliers. An attempt is made in this paper to identify and appropriate methodology of decision-making for the introduction of new technologies from the perspective of "designer decision-makers" by reviewing existing researches in this area. The aspects examined include ; the identification of decision-making situation for the introduction of new technology ; the analysis of barriers to the introduction of new technology ; the anticipation of future building activities ; the anticipation of technological developments ; the identification of new technology alternatives ; the evaluation of new alternatives ; the evaluation of long-term benefits and risks ; the measurement of non-monetary benefits. The paper concludes with suggestions of some important points which need to be considered in the introduction of new technology when designing a building. |
