Abstract The purpose of this paper is to clarify the transitional characteristics of architectural elements in Korean modern house of urban areas ; Nammunno 1Ga Dong and Munhwa Dong in Chongju Area, The summary is as follows :1. In the arboriform street system(Nammunno 1Ga Dong) the lot is the rectangular form, site area almost 50-60 pyung, and the plan type "-" shaped house facing south was almost thrown open a court to the public. In the grid-formed street system(Munhwa Dong) the proportion of the two sides in each divided lot is almost 1:1, site area almost 80-90 pyung, and the type "ㄱ" shaped house facing south west had almost semi-enclosed / enclosed space in the housing layout.2. As with the differentiation of kan the traditional house plan was modified during these periods through the introduction of the corridor, But the combination of master bedroom . livingroom (Daechung).room in series had been sustained up to date.3. With the evolution of the house plan, the five-beam construction of the traditional wooden house was modified to the simple roof truss, and the plastered wall to the wood siding in fixture.The eave structure, the sanitary system, and the other decorative elements are discussed in this study.
