Abstract Recently, the development of new structural system is doing actively in the field of building construction and steel tube structure is spotlighting in this viewpoint.Under these background, nowadays many study for steel tube structure is being done, but these study were being concentrated on deformation and strength of steel tube under centric load with the key variables, such as diameter-to-thickness (D/t) ratio, selenderness ratio.According to, this paper proposed to emprical formula to predict on plastic deformation and strength under eccentric load the kep variables, such as D/t ratio, eccentric ratio as the study to apply steel tube on high-rise building. The results obtained throughout a series of experiment are summarised as follow.1) From the results of buckling test on the tubular steel column, the ultimate stength was determined by local buckling of member in no relation with D/t tatio respctively, also the mode of bucklingwas shown in nonsymmetric buckling as increase of D/t ratio and eccentric ratio.2)The plastic deformation was decreased in accordance with increment of D/t ratio and eccentric ratio respectively, and these tendency of decrease was weakened respectively as increase of eccentric ratio.3)The limit value of nondemension D/t ratio over yield strength was decreased by 1.465, 1.167, 0.951, 0.885 respectively with regard to each eccentric ratio(0.0-> 0.1-> 0.2-> 0.3).4)The emprical formula to predict the ultimate capacity of steel column with D/t ratio and eccentric ratio is proposed as follow.
