Abstract |
A series of 13 reinforced concrete beams were tested to investigate the structural behavior of the sfreuqthened cracked beams with the epoxy bonded steel plates(EBSP) and to identify the various parameters affecting structural strengthening design. The key parameters were the bonded length, the width and the thickness of the steel plates.Full composite action between plate and concrete was obtained by the use of suitable epoxy adhesives. Beams with epoxy bonded plates show the high effectiveness for upgrading the flexural strength and reduce both flexural crack and deflection. For beams with relatively short bonded length, failure occurs by horizontal cracking and plate seperation at the curtailments of plates. The results also show that bonded length of steel plates is the most important factor to develop ultimate load capacities of the strengthened beams. The width and thickness of the plates should be considered in addition to the bonded length for the structure strengthening design. |
