The Reserch trends in the housing for the elderly |
Abstract |
The purpose of this study was to trace the research trends in the research subjects related to the housing for the elderly in U.S.A. The number of 440 studies was selectd from the four major journals published in U.S.A. and divided into five research areas: housing facilities for the elderly, housing for the elderly in the community residence, housing policies for the elderly, research methodology for the eldrly, and general issues related to the eldrly housing. The focuse of research areas was changed over decades. Housing facilities for the elderly was the major research area mainly in 1970's and 1980's. Housing for the elderly in the community residence was published for the longest period and renewed since 1980's. The research area of housing policies for the elderly was the most recently reported in 1980's. General issues related to the elderly housing was published about 20 percent of the total studies since 1951. There were some differences in the research areas between U.S.A. and Japan. Both of research methodology and housing policies for the elderly were the research areas began to study in Japan. There was no study in the intergenerational coresidence with elderly parents in U.S.A. which was one of the main research subjects in Japan. |
