Abstract The purpose of paper is to explore a comparative study on the characteristics of the problem-solving in architectural design and other fields. Generally the experts solve complex problems considerably faster and accurately than the novice. According to the cognitive psychology, those differences are commonplaces of everyday experience, yet only recently have we begun to understand what the expert does differently from the novice to account for this superiority. As a result of this paper, these properties of expert's knowledge base can lead to a problem's interpretation and solution. The experts get their superiority from learning by doing in the longtime repeated practics.
