Abstract The paper deals with the determination of plate anchorage length at the ends of steel plates strengthened by EBSP. The reinforced concrete beams strengthened by EBSP occur the premature failure without the beams achieving their full flexural strength at the end of plates.The main cause of premature failure is stress concentration between the adhesive layer of plate and reinforced concrete, in case of lack of plate length. Then a simple, approximate procedure for predicting the shear and normal stress concentrations is investigated by Roberts's theory based on partial interaction theory. The theoretical results are compared with test results and show close agreement. The formular for determining the plate length that prevents the premature anchorage zone failure is derived and applied.
