Title |
Architectural Design, Criticism and metaphor |
Abstract |
The paper explores metaphors as principles in architectural design and criticism. Through a critical review of the architectural as well as literary theories of metaphor, the paper looks at the possibility of embracing the visual and spatial aspects of buildings in the construction and interpretation of metaphor. Two contemporary shops are used in order to demonstrate how the strucutre of metaphor can be analyzed so as to clarify how metaphorical meaning arises through the manipulation of formal properties. |
