| Abstract |
This paper aims at understanding the design characteristics and pre-rational design methodology of Gothic architecture. For this purpose, this paper examines the pre-rational theory and geometrical methodology, musical proportion of Pythagoras, Platon and St.Augustine which are believed to be used in Gothic architecture. The plans and the elevations of Gothic cathedrals are analyzed with musical proportion systems, and practical applications of the systems are examined. |
