A Study on the Process of Partition Sarang-Chae from An-Chae in Korean Traditional Houses |
Abstract |
Korean Traditional House had been divided into two part mainly. One, what is called An-Chae, was used by female members of family, the other, what is called Sarang-Chae, was used by men including visitors. So, in Korean Traditional House the use of space was mostly interpreted by the concept of sexual discrimination of Confucianism. But in this study, I suggest that An-Chae is the home space for the privacy of family, Sarang-Chae is the social space for the social activity. So we can find that Korean Traditional House has functions of home as well as office. In this view, I think that Korean Traditional House will be the prototype of future house to do business in one's own house. |
