A Study on the Transcendent Character and the Meaning of Ma-dang |
| Abstract |
This study is based on the idea that an endemic environment results the same cultural effect in a certain region. From this investigation, we can know that the transcendent existence on the Korean architectural space "Ma-dang" and the Korean folk religion is related with the artistic performance. The conclusion of this study can be summarized as follows;(1) The space of Ma-dang in Korean traditional architecture may be considered as the place of worship for the most absolute hierarchy.(2) If we consider the Ma-dang as - in corresponding to , we can know that essentially has a meanings of high, south, primary, true, while a meanings of pulpit and worship area.(3) Various gods which is the objects to worship in Korean culture could be regarded as the transcendent ones but could not be regarded as the absolute hierarchy. And the artistic outcomes show a non-spacial and a non-shape characteristics, because they resulted from the transcendent existence what is not considered as a obsolute one. |
