Abstract Man as the measure of the all things is situated in center of the cosmic system with the cardinal points and vertical axis. Man articulates the nature and environment, and then organizes the human space. This study aims to find out the meaningful and orderly anthropocentric characteristics of the Korean traditional architecture which is organized by the structure of the human body and the cosmic image of the man.The Korean traditional architecture is formed by the system of the recognition which is induced from the orientntion of the human body image. Thus, the Korean traditional architecture has the prominent characteristic of the center of the world which is regarded the human and the architecture as the microcosmos, and communicates the heaven with the earth. The frontality which emphasizes the viewpoint of the front side is remarkable in the Korean traditional architecture. And the Korean traditional architecture which aims to harmony and define the human and the nature has the organic characteristic and the human scale, and forms the subjective and meaningful space which articulates the nature through the self-systematization.
