Abstract This study is on the spatial structure of detached houses in Korea. To analyze the spatial structure of houses, concepts of spatial 'articulation' and 'connection' are employed, which enable to understand spatial structure in an objective point of view. Applying this analytical method, this study mainly aims to subtract types of spatial structure of detached houses which have been designed by architects in Korea. Throughout theprocess of analysis, this thesis came to a conclusion that 8 types of space organization can explain the spatial structure of Korean detached houses from 1960s up to now. Furthermore, the comparison of spatial structure among three nations was made; Korean detached houses, Japanese and those of the U.S.A. and it was to make possible to understand both generality and uniqueness of Korean houses. The fact that the detached houses of Korea were analized in the sense of space and its structure means that the methodology of analysis became more comprehensive, which gives this study significance.
