| Abstract |
The study analyzes the concept of Clarence A. Perry's Neighborhood Unit for building a new neighborhood design paradigm. The neighborhood unit formula as well as its historical background isexamined in order to clarify value system in the concept. Moreover, problems and shortages of the concept under current urban conditions are pointed in order to find clues for improvement. The previous searches for alternatives of Neighborhood Unit are reviewed to compare their different strategies. Neighborhood Unit is an innovative social invention which maintains residential area peacefully and harmoniously, where children run and play in the nature. However, current change of urban condition demands a new paradigm for neigborhood design. |
