Abstract High-rise apartments in Korea have not been designed by user's needs but housing developer's and architect's intentions. Therefore, high-rise apartment facades are quite different from resident's visual perferences related to their life-styles and physical, phychological, cultural, socio-economical elements. So, residents are not visually satisfied with these building facades, nor do they have an attachment, affection, and rootedness of their apartment. Eventually, they will even sell their apartments and move out to another house. As we consider these things, we have to prevent disagreement of preference values between architects and users, and prevent exclusion of user participa-tion in the design process. Apartment's Facades design has to be approached by the user's visual preferences and behavior needs. Therefore, the purpose of this study, which begins under the recognition of these problems, is to clarify the preference characteristics of high-rise apartment facades according to a visual perception and behavioral approach. To achieve this purpose, questionnaires are made in accordance with the object of this study. Data are analyzed by SPSS-PC+program (Frequency Analysis, Factor Analysis, Multi-Regression Analysis, Reliability Analysis). The results derived of this study are as follows:1.This paper presents a visual-perception research method systematically and scientifically rooted in the field of environment-behavior study related to the visial preference.2.This research clarifies the issue that residents who are high-rise apartment users classify apartment facades into eight preferable factor groups, and clarifies the preference characteristics of high-rise apartment facades according to the eight factor groups.3.This paper suggests the resident's preference of high-rise apartment facades on the basis of the behavior approach.
