| Abstract |
This paper deals with changes found in the unit floor plans of the apartments built in Seoul Metropolitan area from 1960s to 1990s. It is generally agreed that apartment housing which is totally new to the Korean society has been successfully established as a major type of housing in Korea during the last three decades. In this paper, the reasons behind this success are investigate with the assumption that the unit floor plan changes have happened in order to swiftly correxpond to the changes of thelifestyle occurred in last three decades. The changes in the unit floor plans are analyzed using Space Syntax model and compared to the lifestyle and societal changes in Korea. The results showed that the changes in unit floor plans as represented by those of spatial of the major spaces in the Korean apartment units actually reflect the socio-cultural changes in the contemporary Korea. It is thus concluded that the apartment housing type has successfully established in Korea through continuous self adjustment to the changes in lifestyle in Korean society. |
