Abstract This study is focused on the works of Van Doesburg, executed with Weimar Bauhaus students in 1922, which is historically significant as the first experiment on the new(architectural) constructivity of color-planes in three dimensional space. We look into the way that color-having been regarded as a fundamental element uniquely in paintings-achieves its particular status as it takes, for the first time, the autonomous place in three dimensional space. And with the reading of his several lectures and writings, we try to analyse his theoretical achievements after his experiments; asserting the practical method of color-uses in different genres as paintings and architecture; defining the role and the characteristics of color-effect in three dimensional space which are essentially distinguishable in paintings and architecture; verifying that the distinctions come not only from the fact that there intervenes the gravity force in architectural construction and expression, but also from the fact that there are, in three dimensional space, three fundamental directions-height, width and depth-which produce the (architectural) constructivity.
