Abstract The behavior of uniform, elastic, reinforced columns with an arbitray number of equal or unequal spans is investigated. This study permits the finite element method can be applied on the problems of bucking of columns under compressive axial loading. The braces are represented by elastic translational springs, rotational springs, and interstory springs. The accuracy and convergence of the suggesting method is demonstrated by studying the structural behavior of the buckling of columns with two end rotational springs and midspan translational spring and with three interstory springs. The results of this finite element study are in reasonable agreements with previous approximate methods suggested by Hu, Plaut, and Zhang.
