Analysis of Frames including Joint Deformation |
Abstract |
The object of this study is to investigate the effect of connection flexibility on the behavior of frame system. To include the flexibility of the tube connections, two semi-rigid connection models hased on the connection analysis were used. And the connection is analysized using finite element analysis method which gives a non-linear moment-rotation curves. A non-linear curve for rigid or semi-rigid connection is modelled to a tri-linear curve, respectively. The moment-rotation curves of semi-rigid connection are considered for the frame analysis. Ten-and twenty-story frames with rigid or semi-rigid connections were designed and analysized. The results are compared in terms of (a) story drift, (b) interstory drift, (c) column moment distribution, (d) girder moment diagram. The numerical results show that the column size should be increased in the lower story but beam section can be reduced in the overall story. |
