Inelastic Analysis of Wide-Flange Frames with Large Displacements |
Abstract |
A general approach to the inelastic nonlinear analysis of planar steel frames is presented. The formulation is based on the incremental variational principle using Total Lagrangian Approach. The plasticity effects are taken into account by combining the incremental solution procedure with the tangent modulus method. The inelastic formulation includes the effect of axial force on the stiffness of the structure, residual stresses, strain hardening, and the spread of plasticity.A computer program has been developed and it has been demonstrated by 3 examples that the formulation of the beam element develped here is applicable to large displacement analysis of inelastic plan frames. In spite of the fact that the method uses less elements, accurate solutions are obtained. |
