Developing for the Scope of the Construction Supervision Activities in Korea |
| Abstract |
Construction supervisors working in the domestic construction projects are much confused with playing a supervising role since they have not definite scope of the supervision activities.This study suggest a method for the developing of the construction supervision scope based on the questionaire survey, interivew with supervisors and owner and literature survey in connection with the current scope of superivision activities regulated by the 'Construction Technology Administration Law',and practices in implementation of the construction supervision.This research proposes 3 scope developing stages of construction supervision activities. First stage, supervisors and/or superivising firms accumulate supervising know-how and skills with enforcing of the current scope of the supervision activities and perform a few activities which includes preparation of the evaluation cirteria for bidder, information supply about new technology, method, material, etc. for several contractors. Second stage, supervising firms have more enlarged and enforced function for the controlling and monitoring the project than 1st stage. They investigate project site conditions and recommend contractors optimal construction method, appropriate technic and economical procurement. Third stage, construction supervision activities in Korea are similar to the Construction Management applied much in the advanced construction countries like US, UK and so on. So supervision team inspect and review every works of the construction project at each phases for owner whether they are public or private sector. |
