A Study on the Achitectural Characteristics of Traditional Station in Chosun Dynasty |
Abstract |
This study primarily deals with the architectural characteristics of traditional transportation facilities in Korea, focused on the Station. Korean Traditional Station served as an arterial mechanism as well as an organization of transport communication in delivering official documents, transporting government supplies, for maintaining the centralized ruling system in those days. We can find that transportation facilities were firmly established in the ThreeKingdoms period. And the use of space was devided by climatic condition, social position of travelers, characteristics of travels,man and woman. Traditional Station was consisted of many buildings according to the affairs of station servants. In the layout of Station, sub buildings were located in front of main building. It looks like that of Korean Traditional Housing. Mostly structural form of main building was made of Ik Kong style. Korean Traditional Station had architectural characteristics combined functions of Governmennt Office Building with those of Housing. |
