Abstract |
This paper attempts to highight key issues of the shapes of typical floor and the formal characteristics of supertall buildings and seek a sense of direction for designing supertall buildings. This paper present a brief review and comparative studies of the shapes of typical floor in supertall buildings and the form of the building. The outcomes from this study are as follows.(1) The shapes of typical floor are usually box shapes, but circlular and triangular shapes are frequently presented. These shapes are determined by the social philosophy, structural system, flexibility of space, efficiency of core ratio, and usage.(2) The formal characteristics of supertall buildings are classified into single-tower and twin-tower by composition of massing, and are classified into unity building forms and building forms which are dominated by structural concept and dominated by design cobcept.(3) Supertall buildings are mostly constructed as a symbol of national prosperity and coporate identity. So it presents more unique. nonumental and impressive form. As a result, the shapes of typical floor and the formal characteristics of supertall buildings are mostly affected by the background of the project, cultural context, climates, nd social impacts. |
