| Abstract |
The aim of this study is to identify the characteristic of a type of traditional houses called Yukgan-Palja(dbrrksvkfcjr, house of six units of eight feet). This is a unique style of residential architecture that is specifically found in Kyodong Island which is located in west coast of Korea inbetween Hwanghae and Kyungi Province. The study focuses on two aspects of the type: 1) the organizational characteristic as a basic unit 2) the pattern of expansion in plan. The houses of the island was investigated rather throughly. About 600 plans were collected. The study depended much on the comparative analysis of those plans. Understanding of the house type could contribute much for the influential relationship of housing patterns in both regional and historical level. |
