Abstract The main objective of this research is to construct a general form of covariance structure model and to suggest various comfort indices which can be used to evaluate ndoor environment based on the responses from actual residents.The research was carried out in three different steps; 1) analyzing the relationships among the evaluation indices, 2) developing a covariance structure model, and 3) suggesting indices which should be considered in the personal evaluation of the indoor environment.With the use of the SISREL(an Analysis of Linerar Structural Relationships) statistical computer program, the covariance structure model that was developed in this study was proven to be acceptable.The result suggested that three different indices including cognition, comfort and satisfaction are the most important ones in the subjective evaluation of the indoor environment.
