A Study on Chungryeo Architecture in Chonnam Province |
| Abstract |
Chungryeo is a kind of memorial building which was built in all of the Country in Korea from 15C to 19C. The purpose of this building was to memory good son, faithful wife faithful subject and there was Confucianism inside. The building of chungryeo had been built by king's order. When a family got a chungryeo from a king, the family had great honor, and it become a villige's great pride.Chongryo is located in the front of their house, or entrance of a village. That is, it is located on the place where people can see easily. Chungryeo which is set up in the fron of house is not a building but a kind of gate with two posts.The scale of chongryo which was built in the entrance of a village is usually one room unit of the front and one room unit of the side. But in the case of the memory of few people, chungryeo has larger scale which has three room unit of the front. The four side of the building has not wall but just frame with few wooden stick. There for the interior is seen from outside and there is hanging board which was written about the achievements of the winner inside. |
