Title |
Interactive Computer Graphic Simulation for Architectural Design Research |
Abstract |
Various approaches to simulation have employed a range of technologies to achieve their often quite different objectives. Technical advance has been an important factor for the development of simulation. There have been a variety of efforts in recent years to harness new technologies to simulate the physical environment in innovative and more effective ways. One new approach in this stream is an "interactive and dynamic" graphic simulation using computer and optical video disc technology. This simulation method is prompted by the need for a means of evaluating the legibility of existing buildings as well as buildings in the design phase. Simply speaking, it presents a movie-like tour through a computer simulated model of shopping malls which is designed in a way to allow a participant to take an active role in choosing his/her own path within the setting. The paper begins with the introduction of environmental simulation as a research method. Merits and advantages of computer simulation as a research tool are explained, as well as the process of simulation development. |
