Abstract This paper describes on the optimum design of high-rise apartment house frames. The procedures of this study have the following steps;(1)For a unit plan of apartment house, from ref. (1) and (3), three types of apartment frames(i.e, Bearing wall system, Slab-Band System, Slab-Band System with partially SRC(Steel Reinforced Concrete) members were analized elastically by using ETABS program.(2)The objective functions for optimization are taken as frame construction for cost a unit area in the apartment house plan.(3)The constraints are flexural stress, shear stress, min, thickness of members, min. & max. steel ratios in accordance with requirements for working stress design(WSD).(4)The design variables are effective depths and steel ratiosof member sections. Optimization is conducted by GINO (General Interactive Optimization) program.(5)In design examples, it were compared with the optimum designresults of high-rise(15 story) apartment house for three types of structural systems.
