Structural Behavior of the RC Beam Strengthened at Side with Epoxy-Bonded Carbon Fiber Sheet |
Abstract |
The reinforced concrete(RC) beams strengthened at side with epoxy bonded carbon fiber sheests(CFS) were tested to investigate the flexural behavior. The key variables of the experiment are the bonded length, the number of sheets and end anchorage type. The effects of strengthening technique at side were also examined comparing those of strengthening at soffit. The specimen strengthened at side mainly failed with buckling of the sheets. The flexural strength of the beams strengthened at both soffit and side increase more than 30% compared to that of specimen strengthened only at soffit. The results also show that the beam strengthened with CFS is effective for controlling deflection with increased stiffness of the structure. The end anchorage technique for the strengthened beams with CFS appears to be effective to maintain the good post-failure behavior. |
