Compressive Strength of Concrete Cube Confined with Carbon Fiber Sheets |
Abstract |
The strength of rectangular compression member strengthened with carbon fiber sheets was tested with cube specimen. Emphasis is placed on the confining effects of the carbon sheets on compression for square specimen, especially the effect of rounding the angle before applying the sheets compared to case of round section column. Specimen with different lengths of lap were also evaluated. The compressive strength of the specimen with rectangular section increase 68% compared to that of the specimen only with concrete section. The test result also show that the strength of the rounded specimen increase 98% or more indicating the effectiveness of the rounding the angle of rectangular column. Ductility of the column strengthened with sheet also increase from the confinement effect by carbon fiber sheets. |
