A Study on the Catalysts in the Urban Development |
| Abstract |
This study aims to propose a new concept of urban development. It is to use the catalysts in the city.To achieve this goal, we proposed 3 steps in this study. The first step is to define the catalysts in urban design, the second is to examine the effects of existing catalysts, and the last is to interpret possibilities of using catalysts for urban design.The results are as follows;1.Catalyst in urban development is to induce the neighborhood development, to maintain and reinforce the context of the city.2.After catalyst had been built, the number of buildings which were built around it was increased rapidly over 40%, and the pattern of new construction has spreaded around the catalyst.3.We found that catalytic urban development is one of very useful tools. It induces the natural development and harmonious urban development, and can also reinforce the context of the surrounding area. |
