A Study on the Space Organization of the Korean Traditional Dwelling Houses Based on the Domestic Religion |
| Abstract |
Korean shamanism is the general type of the Korean living, and dominates the living style of the Korean, and relates with the dwelling houses. The space of the traditional dwelling houses reflect the worldview of the shamanism. The structure of the domestic religion has been analysised and applied tounderstanding the space organization of the traditional house. This report attempts to elucidate the structure of place in Korean dwelling houses through the study of the structure of the house god.The Korean traditional dwelling houses have the interanal nature which the sacred inner space of the houses established a clear contrast structure with the profane outer space, and the inner space of the houses has hierarchy by the hierarchy of the house god. The dwelling houses have the humanized structure which is anthropocentric and humanized the house and house god.The dwelling houses are the sacred center of the world which communicates with the heaven, and reflect the structure of the shamanism thought. |
