A Study on the Strength of Concrete-filled Steel Square Tubular Stub-Columns |
Abstract |
The purpose of this study is to investigate the maximum load carrying capacity and plastic deformation capacity of concrete-filled steel square tubular stub-columns under the axial forces. The maximum load carrying capacity of the concrete-filled steel tube columns is generally higher than the axial load capacity resulting from a simple addition of the infilled concrete and steel square tube. The experimental parameters are the diameter to thickness ratio of steel tube columns and the compresive strength of concrete. As the results of the experiments, it was obtained that the confinement effect of the infilled concrete by steel square tube was increased as the diameter to thickness ratio of the steel tube decreased. The predicting formulae of maximum compressive strength of concrete-filled steel square tubular stub-columns are derived taking the confinement effect of the concrete into consideration, and demonstrated that the values of the predictions are slightly higher than that of test results. |
