Abstract |
The Purpose of this paper is to study the mechanical behavior and practical usage of the connection method, high-strength mortar grout-filled steel pipe splice for the precast concrete member connections. Grout-filled steel pipe splices with different parameters and geometrical design were prepared and tested in axial tension until the failure. To fulfill the objectives of this research, a test program was carried out on specimens with various sizes and details for understanding the effects of the interacting variables, such as compressive strength of the grout mortar, the diameter and length of the steel pipes, the diameter of the spliced bars, and the type of the splices. The results of this experimental program provide valuable data on the effects of the length and steel pipe splice types. More importantly, it shows that a simple and inexpensive grout-filled splice for the field connection of precast concrete members can be fabricated with the standard steel pipe. In addition, the following paticular conclusions can be made; G-Type steel pipe splice is found the best type for the splice connections. It is also shown that the effective length of the splice for the G-type and P-type is 25cm and that for the F-type is 30cm. |
