Title |
A Study on Connections of Circular Hollow Section with Gusset Plate |
Abstract |
A numerical analysis and experimental study were performed to investigate the behavior and strength of a connection of tubular member subjected to axial and later loading. To measure the ultimate strength of the connection subjected vertical and lateral forces, testing bed was equipped to apply three directional loadings. Because of limitations in loading capacity, the specimens were fabricated with 1/3 scale of full size. Tensile coupon tests and stub column tests were also carried out. Of primary interest here are the ultimate strength of connections having eccentricity. From several reports and test results, main reasons of local buckling and local plastic deformation of tubular members were reviewed and the influence of degree of eccentricity on the ultimate strength was investigated. Through the finite element analysis, the local effect of stress distribution and concentration was examined. |
