Abstract The objective of this study is to evaluate effects of the architectural components in an atrium such as top-glazing ratio, interior wall-mass, and ventilation rate, using DOE-2.1C and Phoenics 2.1. The simulation model is a four-sided colsed type atrium. The height of this model is 19m, the depth and the width are 23.1m, 62.5m, respectively. This study shows the impact of thermal variables in an atrium, which can be used at the beginning of an atrium design. In this study, simulation results of the two programs are compared to analyze the characteristics of simulation tools.
