Abstract This paper describes the effect of inorganic penetrating siliceous slurry coating on water permeability and pore volume of microstructure of mortar substrate under damp environment. This material is mixed with inorganic powder consisted of silica, portland cement, fine sand and water. For estimation on effect of siliceous slurry coating, microstructure of coated mortar substrates were observed through SEM and coefficient of permeability and pore volrume were measured for evaluation of watertightness of them.A number of needle or fibrous crystals were produced in microstructure. Coefficient of permeability and pore volume of coated mortar were obviously less then those of non-coated one. Reduction of pore volume was caused by the production of needle or fibrous crystals. Realtionship of them can be described by the equation y=axb, where y is coefficient of permeability and x is pore volume.
