Abstract This study with the object of suggesting the elements applicable to layout planning of commercial underground space. This is carried out through environmental perceptual/cognitive dimensions, and arranging such suggestions, they run as follows :Design the layout contributory to the visual connection between the internal and external environment as far as possible, organize a circulation and a space which increase the spaciousness through facilities offering an extended internal view, and design in order to contribute to the various internal environments and the inducement of stimulationin compensation for a deficiency of windows. Design an internal layout easy to comprehend so that it not only becomes as an emergency passage but also increases the orientation, and arrange a space which creates a clear image inside the building in order to fill up a deficiency of external image. For such a layout planning, this study proposes the integral system with the types of NPN, NPD, NP, and DPD, suggests the indoor square and the circulation system as the detailed design elements.
