Abstract A museum have various function. So choosing and special function is very important when we build a museum. But it is very difficult to investigate a function because it has abstract meaning. Therefore we suggest special unit named 'Functional Classification Unit' for analysis of museum's function. The FCU(Functional Classification Unit) means a space in which a special function is accomplished and we call it a FCU eventhough those are composed of several rooms. So all the museums have 127 FCU. We adapted these FCU's to 47 museums in Korea. The results are as follows.1. As the number of FCU, we can make 5 groups.(1) >65, (2) 50-65, (3) 20-50, (4) 10-20, (5) <10.2. As the scale of museums, museums are divided into 5 groups. 5 groups relate the number of FCR, too (1) >40,000m (super large museum), (2) 40,000m -8,000m (large museum), (3) 8,000mm -4,500 (medium museum), (4) 4,500m -1,500m (small museum), (5) <1,500m .(super small museum).3. When we analysis FCU as 5 groups of the scale of museums, (1) super large museums have 109 FCU, (2) large museums have 60 FCU, (3) medium museums have 26 FCU, (4) small museums have 12 FCU, (5) super small museums have 4 FCU.
