A Study on Educative Potentials of Urban Environment |
Abstract |
This study explores the potential role of the physical environment in individual growth and development. Emphasis is on how architecture, urban design and planning could make cities more open, exporable, informative, and responsive to individual needs for learning and growth. The study suggests four ways which make cities educative. They are designing environmental form as educator, amplifying educational information using signs, sculptures and graphics, networking discovery transit paths and making city festivals and events educative. Educative potentials of Seoul are examined from the aspects of history, culture, political and ecconomical systems. In order to suggest guidelines to develop various educational programs, Seoul City Tour is evaluated on the basis of interview survey as a case study. |
