Title |
A Theoretical Study on the Evaluation Elements of Environment Perceptual/Cognitive Dimension |
Abstract |
This research investigates environmental perceptual/cognitive evaluation elements of natural and built environment. as a result of this investigation, the research sets forth the concepts of environmental eveluation as follows:Fristly, the natural evaluation elements could be categorized as formal, functional, and psychological elements. The formal elements are embodied in words such as complexity, incongruity, enframement, convergence, contrase, and clarity. The functional elements are embodied in words such as coherence, accessibility, naturalness, and the psychological elements are embodied in specific characters such as mystery, surprisingness, novelty, familiarity, and spaciousness.Secondly, the built evaluation elements could be categorized as formal, functional, psychological, and meaning elements. The formal elements are embodied in words such as complexity, clarity, appearance, form, and visibility. The functional elements are embodied in words such as location, movement around the base, use, structure, and naturalness. The psychological elements are embodied in words such as identity, orientation, and also the meaning elements are embodied in words such as meaning, naming, significance, and symbolic aesthetics.Thirdly, the difference between natural evaluation elements and built evaluation elements disproves that people's attitudes to built environment are more active perceptual/cognitive operation than people's attitudes to natural environment. |
