Bond Properties of Epoxy Coated Bard in High Strength Concrete |
Abstract |
The effects of epoxy coatings on the reduction in bond strength between reinforcing bars and high strength concrete are evaluated. Tests are performed on specimens with 240, 300, 600 and 800 kg/cm2 concrete strength and D16 bars with average coating thickness 150~300 m. Both top-cast and bottom-cast bars are tested. Epoxy coatings reduce bond strength significantly in the normal and high strength concrete, but the extent of bond reduction is less the values than used to estabilish the development length modification factors in our domestic design code. Epoxy-coated bars are more intensive to top bar effects in the normal strength concrete than high strength concrete. The development length modification factors is recommended as 1.35-0.00028 fc to take into consideration of concrete strength variation. |
