Abstract In order to design for shear of reinforced concrete interior beam-column joints, it is important to understand the influence of design variables. In this study, the influence of design variables for reinforced concrete interior beam-column joints is studied assuming shear resistance of a diagonal concrete strut mechanism and a truss mechanism. From the parametric studies using this method, the influence of beam bar bond strength within the joint, the amount of joint lateral reinforcement and column axial load was found significant on the joint shear strength. This paper presents a design method for shear of reinforced concrete interior beam-column joints.
